It’s winter, and depending on where you live, the cold is doing a number on your skin, right now. Cold weather makes it a lot harder to deal with the dry skin and wrinkles that can come from being in a more harsh climate…but I have a few solutions for you that work well and that are easy on both your body and your bank account.
You can’t stop the fact that you’re getting a little older every day, but what you CAN do is take small steps that will make a huge difference in the way that you look and feel.
This article will show you how to soften your skin, keep it amazingly moisturized, and lessen or eliminate any fine lines and wrinkles that you see.
Step One: Buff Your Body!
If the skin on your body is dry, there are usually two, primary reasons for that. The first reason is that you might not be drinking enough water. The quickest way to solve your skin moisture problems is to start from the inside. Just drink enough water every day.
The average person needs approximately 64 ounces of water every day. If you keep a water bottle close by at all times, this will be easier to do. Your lips will be more full, your skin will be more clear, and you’ll feel amazing. Simply feeling good has a great effect on your appearance!
The second reason why your skin is dry might be that dead skin cells have built up on the surface of your skin, and you need to exfoliate. Those dead skin cells are most likely blocking your moisturizer from doing its job.
A really simple way to exfoliate is to take some sugar (or salt) that you have in your home and mix it with a little olive oil and add a few drops of fresh lemon to the mix. Take a shower, and then, at the end of your shower, use the scrub all over your body. It’s best to use a scrub on a clean body.
The scrub will exfoliate and remove all those old skin cells from the surface of your skin. The oil will give you some much-needed moisture. And the lemon will brighten your skin tone and even do a bit of tightening, which will help lessen your wrinkles and fine lines. Vitamin C has that effect, naturally.
If you do this regularly, you’ll start to see a big difference in your skin in just a matter of days. It will feel better, immediately! If you notice any irritation, don’t use the fresh lemon, don’t scrub too hard, and don’t do the scrub but a 1-3 times per week.
Step Two: Take A Long Soak
If you take a shower in the morning, you can relax in the evening with a long bath. Dry skin is one of the first steps to wrinkled skin, so make sure that, when you get in the tub, the water is not overly hot.
Very hot baths are incredibly drying to the skin, so make your water warm rather than hot. And add oil to your bath water. A great oil to use is Vitamin E oil. Vitamin E oil is healing to the skin. It helps to heal scars and lighten blemishes. It also calms skin that is inflamed.
If you happen to be suffering from any kind of topical allergic reaction, Vitamin E oil will be very useful because it has anti-inflammatory properties.(1)
If you really want to up the ante, add in some argan and jojoba oils to your soak. Argan oil is great for dry skin and fine lines. It naturally helps your body produce more collagen, which is perfect for eliminating or lessening wrinkles. Jojoba oil is technically a wax and not a true oil, but it absorbs very easily into the skin.
It is the only oil that is similar to human sebum, so when you use it, your body responds well to its moisturizing properties. Be sure to pat your body gently when you dry off after your soak. Harsh rubbing isn’t good for your skin’s health.
Step Three: Always Moisturize Well
After both your shower and your bath, make sure that you moisturize your skin well. We’ve already mentioned jojoba oil and the way that it so closely resembles human sebum. If you want to use this for your moisturizer, your skin will really thank you for it!
If you don’t want to use an oil because it’s too heavy for you, just use your best moisturizer. Just before bed, you can probably lay it on a little more thickly than you normally would. Winter weather almost demands it.
These are my simple tips for helping you to defeat dry skin and wrinkles for good. If you consistently put them to use, you’ll notice an improvement in your skin tone and texture in a very short amount of time.
