Do you want that gleaming smile with white teeth? Or did you used to have one until you noticed your teeth just aren’t what they used to be? The foods you eat are most likely to blame! There are some serious offenders out there that can permanently stain your teeth with regular use and especially if you don’t take care of your teeth well enough.

Red Wine

Highly acidic foods, such as wine, are very damaging for your teeth and can erode the outer enamel layer away. Red wine clings to and stains the plaque in your teeth, so brushing it away before you drink will decrease your chances of a wine-stained smile. Make sure you regularly visit the dentist and go for other options where you can if you want to save your beautiful white smile.

 

Coffee

You probably enjoy drinking coffee every day but were you aware that it’s staining your teeth? In fact, it’s one of the worst offenders for it! Coffee isn’t necessarily acidic like wine but it still causes discoloration. Your tooth enamel contains microscopic pits and ridges. Both these can effectively hold particles and pigments from dark-colored drinks such as coffee. The color then becomes embedded in these little cracks and ridge. If you don’t look after your teeth properly, this can cause permanent stains and yellowing on your teeth – not very attractive!

 

Dark fruits such as blackberries, blueberries and pomegranates

While they may be brimming over with highly beneficial antioxidants, richly pigmented forest fruits, such as berries, have a serious stain game. Have you ever had the misfortune of staining any of your clothes with any of these berry offenders? If you have, then you can understand what they can do to your teeth! Their dark pigments will cling to the tooth enamel in the same was coffee does.

 

Yellow & red curry

Unfortunately a bowl of delicious curry has made it onto the list. This delicious Indian dish is a well-known tooth stainer. The natural yellow or sometimes red colored curry can leave a pretty, noticeable tinge on your teeth. To avoid the effects of these devilish spices brush your teeth or rinse your mouth directly after you have eaten. Next time you eat or dine out, opt for the ones with a more natural or plain color.

 

If you want your smile to remain bright and white then each time you consume one of the above offenders, make sure you brush your teeth. You can also treat yourself to extra whitening toothpaste or some natural coconut oil to help enhance the natural white color of your teeth.
