What is a dark spot? A dark spot is an area on your skin, which stands out against your natural skin tone, as it is a few shades darker, like a series of small shadows. Dark spots on your face are more than annoying. They are usually a result of pigmentation, sun damage or stress so can make you appear older than you really are or a little tired out. It has been used to calm a large amount of skin conditions including dark spots. Before applying your makeup concealer why not add a daily dab of Aloe Vera gel to the dark spots? 

A natural homemade remedy

This homemade remedy is a great way to reduce dark spots. All you need is 1 lemon. Cut the lemon, open and squeeze it out onto a cotton bud and gently rub it in to the dark spots on your face. Allow the juice to dry for a few minutes then rinse it off with luke-warm water. Apply at least once a day for 2 weeks to achieve the desired effects to rid your face of those dark spots.

Salicylic acid

You probably haven’t directly heard of salicylic acid but it is an active ingredient often used in acne treatments but it also boastsproperties that help to lighten dark spots on your face. Salicylic acid works its magic by causing the outer layer of your skin to soften, and then peel. This removes dead skin cells allowing new cells to grow, thus eliminating dark spots and surface layer pigmentation. 

Wear a sunscreen daily

Be it under your makeup or as a daily moisturiser make sure you wear your sunscreen every day. You can get special creams just for your face but make sure you get one with an SPF of 30 and always apply before leaving your house. Wearing a sun cream daily will protect your skin around the clock from developing more dark spots and will also help slow down the ageing process.

Remember prevention is always better than the cure so stay safe in the sun and look after your skin on a daily basis. Makeup may well be a good option but masking the problem isn’t always the solution so tackle the issue at its source to rid yourself of those unsightly dark spots.
