It’s hard enough to deal with acne as a teenager, but adult acne can be quite annoying to handle. While there are plenty of causes for adult acne, preventing it beforehand with a few tips can help keep blemishes and breakouts under control. It’s common for adults to deal with breakouts since the exposure to dirt and germs are quite often the main causes. Excess oil, dead skin cells and clogged pores are some additional issues which can occur with problematic skin. Acne can even occur overnight or during the day when you least expect it.
Controlling acne is not just about washing your face twice a day, but a lifestyle change. Exposure to dirt and oil along with poor lifestyle choices should be looked at closely before blaming your cleanser. There are a few methods and easy solutions to keep your breakouts under control. Here are just a few ways to keep your breakouts at a minimum.
Taking on too much stress is one of the main causes of acne believe it or not. When you deal with stress continuously, it causes your blood flow to become irregular and your hormones to fluctuate causing an increase in oil secretion. To keep acne and stress levels under control go for a run or keep a workout regimen on a daily basis to include a long walk once a day. Meditation and a healthy diet are other ways to control stress.
Drink Plenty of Water
Nowadays we undervalue the benefits of drinking water. We forget to drink a minimum of 8 glasses that our bodies need to stay hydrated. Not to mention keeping your body hydrated is one of the best methods to prevent acne. With a good amount of water in your system, you can detox your body and flush out any pollutants caused by a poor diet.
Always Remove Makeup
It happens to the best of us, we end up becoming too lazy to remove our makeup before going to bed and we wake up with a greasy face and a few breakouts. Never skip out on cleansing your skin and removing all of your makeup off your skin, especially if you’re using full coverage foundation which can clog pores and cause acne from forming overnight.
Avoid Touching Your Face
A lot of germophobes avoid touching their face which can spread bacteria from your hands. Think of how many things you’ve touched throughout the day even after washing your hands. Keeping your hands away from your face can minimize excess oil and dirt to spread onto the skin. It should be noted to always avoid picking at your skin and squeezing any blemishes or scratching off scabs to prevent scars.
Change Pillow Cases
If you’re not changing your pillowcases every other day, you’re causing the dirt and oil rubbed off from your hair to spread onto your skin overnight. To lessen the chances of breakouts from occurring, always wash and change out your pillowcases every week since you spend at least 7+ hours resting your face on it.
These are just a few top tips to consider if you’ve been experiencing any adult acne. With so many ways we can take care of our skin, it’s the least we can do to keep our best face forward!
